Lauren McCormick

Lauren majored in Biology and minored in Medical Anthropology and Statistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill). Throughout most of her time at UNC, she worked in the Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Ecology Laboratory (IDEEL) under Dr. Steven Meshnick, Dr. Jonathan Parr, and Dr. Jon Juliano on malaria molecular epidemiology studies. 

After graduating with her bachelor's degree in 2021, she began a postbaccalaureate research fellowship at the U.S. National Institutes of Health's Vaccine Research Center (NIH/VRC) under Dr. Danny Douek.  During her time at the VRC, she worked on numerous projects investigating the immune response provoked by SARS-CoV-2 and contributing to the NIH's pandemic preparedness efforts. 

Currently, Lauren is a D.Phil. student in the NIH-Oxford program mentored by Dr. Aris Katzourakis at Oxford and Dr. Patrick Dolan at the U.S. NIH. Her work focuses on investigating the evolution of human enteroviruses with a particular focus on the role of recombination in enteroviral diversification.
